Keep these simple rules in mind in you are involved in a motor vehicle accident
If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident, there are certain steps you should do in order to prepare should you later need to pursue a personal injury claim. At a mimimum, be sure to obtain as much information as you can about anyone else involved in the accident, specially anyone responsible for causing the accident. This includes their name, address, telephone numbers (home, cell and work), their license number, and license plate number. If there are any witnesses to the accident you should also obtain their names and contact information. Get the names and badge numbers of all police officers or other public servants (for example, ambulance personnel). Make sure to get medical treatment for any injuries you or any of your passengers sustain in the accident. Promptly inform your insurance company and file an accident report. You should contact a competent, highly experienced attorney who can help you prepare for your conversation with the insurance company and for correctly completing the accident report. Your attorney can ensure that you do not inadvertently describe the accident or your injuries in a way that could be misinterpreted.
